Self-Portrait

In year six, the pupils brought along 3 photographs of when they were small until the present and then copied them by painting, while year 9 and 10 worked with the mirror. Once they represented themselves dressed up as a narrative figure for instance as an Avatar or a Manga character, and then another time, drawing just as they actually perceived themselves in the present. Self-portrait is a very delicate work, because it obliges the adolescents to directly confront themselves and to accept the self as they perceive it. The contrast between what we think we see or are and what we effectively observe can be even more dramatic in a self-portrait than in another subject, because it deeply questions our being and its transformation and evolution.
