L’origine du monde

From a photograph of a tree met by chance during a walk in the countryside comes the association with Gustave Courbet’s painting “L’origine du monde”, which provoked a huge scandal and has been partially hidden for a long time by a small cloth covering a section of the painting. Even though Courbet’s picture could seem to be pornographic in its external appearance, in fact the close representation of the female sex talks to us about human reproduction and the painting shows where everything began. Although woman gives birth to children, in indescribeable pain, without man’s participation no human procreation would have taken place. So the photograph is the female answer to a painting made by a male.
